Family Support (CONNECT) Project

The Family Support Project (CONNECT) is a federally funded project sponsored by the Developmental Disabilities Council (D.D.C.). D.D.C. is developing a plan to integrate the best of one-stops and search engines to connect persons with developmental disabilities and their families to information about services and support through computer technology.

The first phase of the project has been completed. Language Works! surveyed 25 families from five Native American tribes, including Quileutes, Chehalis, Spokane, Muckelshoot and Yakima Indian Nations. In addition, Language Works! interviewed 25 ethnic families, targeting Asian, Latino, East African, Eastern European and Middle Eastern immigrants.

Families were surveyed to identify what current web and local community resources are used. Also, the surveys determined how families use the web to expand their access to web based and local community resources.

The recommended websites link ethnic families who have children with developmental disabilities to available family strengthening services in the Greater Seattle area.

Language Works! is a division of Associates in Cultural Exchange (A.C.E.).
